You will want to generously water your plant the day before you uproot it. A fully hydrated plant will be less likely to go into shock. It's best if you transplant during the rose's dormant season, but this isn't absolutely essential. During the dormant season the rose is not growing. Also, if you've pruned the bush it will be more compact and easier to move. But, if it's not the dormant season and you have to transplant your rose, don't severely prune it before moving it - it's not necessary to do this.
With the possible exception of feeding lawns, adding well-rotted organic compost provides most of the nutritional needs of the plants, albeit at a slower rate than chemical fertilizer. The real benefit of compost though, is less as a source of nutrient, but rather for the positive processes that it induces long term. These can be summarized as follows:
When selecting the right container for your potatoes, there really isn't a wrong answer. Anything that holds a lot of dirt like large garbage cans, yard trash bags, 2'x2'x3' raised beds, even tires are perfect for growing potatoes. We are using 32 gallon heavy duty yard trash bags this year.
Think about it - how great it would be if everyone would learn how to plant a vegetable garden and do so in their backyard. Aside from a greener environment with cleaner air, noone would go hungry again. Not only that, you're also sure that what you have on your table is organic and natural.
